Part A: Configuring the mail program.

1. Start Outlook Express.

2. From the Outlook Express main menu, select Tools and select Accounts.

3. Click on Add and select Mail.

4. The Internet Connection Wizard screen will appear. Enter your full name (e.g. John Smith). That name will be seen by e-mail recipients in all the messages you send.

5. After entering your name click on Next >.

6. Enter your e-mail address. That address will be used in all mail messages.

For NJSurfer Clients the email address has the format:
    yourname @YourDomainName.com/net/org

Replace the italicized text above with your actual chosen username.

7. After entering your e-mail address, click on Next >.

8. Now you need to select an e-mail server type, and supply the names of the Incoming mail server and the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server.

  • Mail server type: POP3
  • Incoming mail server:     mail.njsurfer.net
  • Outgoing mail server:     mail.njsurfer.net



 

9.  Click on Next >.

10.  For sending and receiving e-mail using the NJSurfer network, use these settings:

  • Enter your Account Name. This is your actual email address like     yourname@YourDomainName.com/net/org.
  • Enter your password

 

 

11. Click on Next .

12. You should see the Congratulations dialog box.

13. Click on Finish to save your settings.

14. Now the e-mail server properties need to be set to take advantage of the programs options. Click Tool>Accounts>

15.  Open the Internet Accounts window. Make sure that the tab called Mail is selected. You should see an account with the same name as the Incoming mail server you already defined.

15. In the Internet Accounts window, click on the e-mail account you just created and then click on Properties The following dialog box will open:

The Mail Account name you defined in Step 8 will appear as the [default] incoming mail server. Those whose share a computer should differentiate between accounts by creating them with unique names.  Fill in any or all information you choose.  Your reply address is normally your newly created email address form NJSurfer.

17. Click the Server Tab.  Ensure that the "My Server requires authentication" check box is Checked.

18. Click the Advanced tab.  We at NJSurfer recommend that you "Save a copy of messages on the server" and that you "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'  Checked both of the boxes.
